The EconomyPlate™ 3.5mm Balsa Core is a carbon fiber sandwich laminate featuring a 3.5mm end grain balsa wood core. It is designed for high strength and stiffness-to-weight ratio applications. The lay-up consists of 0°/90° orientation carbon fiber face sheets on each side of the balsa core, with two available face sheet thicknesses (.010" or .030"). Both sides have a textured finish for optimal bonding to other surfaces.
EconomyPlate™ 3.5mm Balsa Core sheets are available in three sizes: 6" x 6", 24" x 24", and 24" x 48". Face sheet thickness options are .010" or .030". All sheets feature a texture/texture finish for improved bonding.
The end grain balsa core provides exceptionally high shear, tensile, and compressive strengths while keeping the panel lightweight. This makes EconomyPlate™ ideal for applications requiring high performance with minimal weight. Balsa is also a renewable resource, with typical trees maturing to 90 feet in seven years.
All EconomyPlate™ 3.5mm Balsa Core sheets come with a texture/texture finish on both sides. This finish is specifically designed to enhance bonding to other surfaces during assembly or integration.
