Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information: 1/8" 0/90 Carbon Fiber High Modulus Uni Sheet - 12" x 12"

What is the 1/8" 0/90 Carbon Fiber High Modulus Uni Sheet (12" x 12")?

The 1/8" 0/90 Carbon Fiber High Modulus Uni Sheet (12" x 12") is a high-performance carbon fiber sheet manufactured by DragonPlate. It features a high modulus unidirectional layup with fibers oriented at 0 and 90 degrees, providing exceptional stiffness and strength. This sheet is part of DragonPlate's High Modulus Carbon Fiber Sheets product line and is suitable for demanding engineering applications requiring minimal deflection and high rigidity. Note: For applications requiring different thicknesses or layups, alternative DragonPlate sheets may be more appropriate.

What are the key features of the 1/8" 0/90 Carbon Fiber High Modulus Uni Sheet?

This sheet offers a high modulus (stiffness) due to its unidirectional 0/90 fiber orientation, making it ideal for structural applications where minimal flex and high strength-to-weight ratio are required. It is lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and maintains performance in challenging environments. Note: High modulus sheets can be more brittle than standard modulus sheets; applications involving impact or high vibration may require alternative layups.

What technical documentation is available for this product?

DragonPlate provides a Weights and Specs Page with detailed specifications for all carbon fiber sheets, including high modulus variants. Additional technical guides and downloadable CAD models are available to support design and integration. Note: For highly specialized engineering data, contact DragonPlate's technical support for guidance.

Features & Capabilities

What performance advantages does DragonPlate's high modulus carbon fiber sheet offer?

DragonPlate's high modulus carbon fiber sheets provide an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and enhanced stiffness, making them suitable for aerospace, robotics, and industrial automation applications. The material is resistant to corrosion, temperature extremes, and UV exposure, ensuring long-term durability. Note: High modulus sheets may be less suitable for applications requiring high impact resistance; consider standard modulus options for those cases.

Can the 1/8" 0/90 High Modulus Uni Sheet be customized?

Yes, DragonPlate offers CNC cutting, custom sheet sizes, and specialized laminate schedules for high modulus carbon fiber sheets. Customers can request tailored solutions to meet specific design and performance requirements. Note: Customization may affect lead times and cost; contact DragonPlate for details.

Use Cases & Benefits

What are common applications for the 1/8" 0/90 Carbon Fiber High Modulus Uni Sheet?

This sheet is used in aerospace, robotics, industrial automation, and other engineering fields where high stiffness and low weight are critical. Example applications include structural panels, machine frames, and components requiring minimal deflection. Note: For applications involving complex shapes or high impact, alternative DragonPlate products may be more suitable.

Who typically uses DragonPlate high modulus carbon fiber sheets?

Typical users include aerospace engineers, robotics designers, industrial automation specialists, and researchers who require lightweight, stiff, and durable materials for advanced projects. Note: Hobbyists and general consumers may find standard modulus sheets more cost-effective for less demanding applications.

Technical Resources & Implementation

What resources are available to help with design and implementation?

DragonPlate provides technical guides such as The Ultimate Guide to Carbon Fiber Design and Application, downloadable CAD models, and engineering support through Element6 Composites. These resources assist with material selection, design optimization, and integration. Note: For highly specialized engineering support, direct consultation may be required.

How easy is it to cut, drill, or bond the high modulus carbon fiber sheet?

DragonPlate's sheets can be cut, drilled, and bonded using standard tools, though proper safety measures are recommended due to the abrasive nature of carbon fiber. CNC cutting services are available for precision requirements. Note: High modulus sheets are more brittle and require careful handling during machining; improper tools may cause delamination or cracking.

Compliance & Certifications

What certifications and compliance standards does DragonPlate meet?

DragonPlate manufactures its products under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards. The company has completed CMMC Level 1 and NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments and is advancing toward CMMC Level 2 compliance. These certifications demonstrate adherence to quality and Department of Defense cybersecurity requirements. Note: For application-specific compliance (e.g., medical, aerospace), verify with DragonPlate for documentation.

Support & Ordering

How can I get technical support or place a custom order?

Contact DragonPlate's customer support team via service@dragonplate.com or call 315-252-2559 (Mon-Fri 8:30am – 5:00pm ET). For custom fabrication, CNC cutting, or engineering services, visit the custom fabrication page or contact Element6 Composites. Note: Lead times for custom orders may vary based on complexity and current production schedules.

Limitations & Considerations

Are there any limitations or considerations when using high modulus carbon fiber sheets?

High modulus carbon fiber sheets offer superior stiffness but can be more brittle than standard modulus sheets, making them less suitable for applications involving high impact or vibration. Always consult technical documentation and consider your application's specific requirements before selection. Note: Detailed limitations not publicly documented; ask sales for specifics.

Dragonplate high modulus carbon fiber sheets are fabricated using a special type of fiber that is processed to have a stiffness almost double that of our standard uni prepreg sheets and about 2.5 times as stiff as our standard solid Dragonplate. This product is available in a textured finish on both sides.

Although more expensive than our other carbon fiber options, this material is about 50% stiffer than aluminum, but at half the weight, providing an opportunity for unprecedented weight savings in applications where minimum panel thickness, weight, and deflection are critical. Our standard offering includes a few select panel thicknesses; however, we are able to custom fabricate these plates up to 30"x40" and 1/2" thick upon request.
