Yes, DragonPlate offers custom fabrication services, including CNC cutting, custom sheet sizes, and specialized laminate schedules. For tailored solutions, visit the custom fabrication page. Note: Lead times and costs may vary for custom orders; contact sales for details.

What accessories are available for assembly and maintenance?

DragonPlate provides a range of accessories including bonded fasteners, adhesives (such as 3M and LOCTITE/Hysol), and polishes to support assembly and maintenance. See the Adhesives & Applicators and Bonded Fasteners sections for options. Note: Compatibility with specific tube types should be verified before purchase.

Use Cases & Benefits

What applications are suitable for the 1.75" ID x 72" roll-wrapped carbon fiber tube?

This tube is ideal for aerospace, robotics, industrial automation, and custom engineering projects requiring lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant components. It is also used in drone frames, robotic arms, and structural supports. Note: For applications requiring biocompatibility or radiolucency, specialized DragonPlate products are recommended.

What business impact can I expect from using DragonPlate tubes?

Customers have achieved measurable results, such as a $1 million annual savings in industrial automation by using custom carbon fiber robotic arms. Benefits include reduced manufacturing costs, faster project completion, and improved product performance. Read the case study. Note: Actual results depend on application and implementation; not all projects will see the same savings.

Technical Requirements & Implementation

How easy is it to cut, drill, or bond this carbon fiber tube?

DragonPlate's tubes are designed for ease of use; they can be cut, drilled, and bonded without specialized equipment. Customers report that prefabricated components allow for immediate integration into projects. For best results, follow safety guidelines and use recommended tools. Note: Improper handling can generate dust and pose safety risks; consult technical guides for safe practices.

What resources are available to help with design and implementation?

DragonPlate provides technical guides such as The Ultimate Guide to Carbon Fiber Design and Application, downloadable CAD models, and responsive customer support. These resources help simplify design, integration, and troubleshooting. Note: Some advanced engineering services may require engagement with DragonPlate's Element 6 Composites team.

Security, Compliance & Quality

What certifications and compliance standards does DragonPlate meet?

DragonPlate is ISO 9001:2015 certified for quality management. The company has completed CMMC Level 1 and NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments to meet Department of Defense cybersecurity standards and is advancing toward CMMC Level 2. For details, contact service@dragonplate.com. Note: Not all certifications may apply to every product or use case; verify requirements for regulated industries.

Support & Customer Experience

How can I get support or technical assistance for my project?

DragonPlate offers responsive customer support via phone at 315-252-2559 and email at service@dragonplate.com. Customers value the team's assistance in addressing technical questions and challenges. Dragonplate roll wrapped twill carbon fiber tubes are fabricated from a combination of unidirectional and woven twill prepreg material and cello wrapped for a gloss finish. The unidirectional layers are oriented to provide high bending stiffness and axial strength. The inner and outer layers provide a bias support in addition to an attractive appearance. This product is ideal for building lightweight frames and structures, tubular vessels, poles, column supports, and any other application where low weight and high stiffness are essential, yet appearance is also important.

Carbon Fiber Tube Faces

Three different unidirectional CF options are available in these tubes: 33 msi standard modulus (SM) PAN unidirectional carbon fiber, 57 msi high modulus (HM) PAN carbon fiber, and 110 msi ultra high modulus (UHM) Pitch carbon fiber. The benefit of the PAN carbon fiber is higher strength, whereas the pitch carbon fiber has higher stiffness, higher thermal conductivity, and lower thermal expansion (CTE nearly zero). Depending on the application, both are excellent options. For example, if the part requires maximum strength, then the standard modulus material would be the best choice. If additional stiffness is required, but the component must still retain most of the high strength properties, then the high modulus PAN carbon fiber is the better choice. If, however, the loads are low, for example in many automation and robotics applications, the ultra high modulus Pitch fiber can substantially increase the stiffness of a part. Properly designed, a carbon fiber part made from Dragonplate UHM carbon fiber can easily be stiffer than one made from steel, but at less than 1/5th the weight.

Although more expensive than our other carbon fiber options, Dragonplate HM and UHM carbon fiber tubes provide an opportunity for unprecedented weight savings, particularly in applications where minimum weight and deflection are critical. Dragonplate HM tubes are about 50% stiffer than aluminum, whereas the UHM tubes are as rigid as steel. Our standard offering includes tubes with 1/16" wall thickness; however, we are able to custom fabricate these tubes with 1/4" or more wall thickness upon request.

Since UHM carbon fiber material has certain export restrictions, customers are required to fill out a short form detailing the end use. Both the customer and application will need to be vetted before the product is able to ship. Please fill-out the PDF form and fax or email it back to us if you have ordered the UHM option.
