Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

What is the Carbon Fiber Prepreg LAST-A-FOAM® Core Sheet 0.125" x 24" x 24"?

The Carbon Fiber Prepreg LAST-A-FOAM® Core Sheet 0.125" x 24" x 24" is a sandwich sheet product from DragonPlate, featuring carbon fiber prepreg skins bonded to a LAST-A-FOAM® core. This configuration delivers a high stiffness-to-weight ratio, making it suitable for applications requiring lightweight structural panels. Note: Detailed product performance metrics for this specific sheet are available in DragonPlate's technical documentation. Learn more about sandwich sheets.

What types of carbon fiber sandwich sheets does DragonPlate offer?

DragonPlate offers sandwich sheets with various core materials, including birch, balsa, foam (such as LAST-A-FOAM®), honeycomb, Dyneema®, and flax linen. Each core type is selected for specific performance needs, such as stiffness, weight, or environmental resistance. Note: Not all core types are suitable for every application; consult technical specs for compatibility. See all sandwich sheets.

What are the key performance features of DragonPlate's carbon fiber sandwich sheets?

DragonPlate's sandwich sheets are engineered for high strength-to-weight ratios, durability, and impact resistance. The carbon fiber dissipates energy through fiber breakage, matrix cracking, and delamination. For impact-critical applications, Kevlar or carbon/Kevlar hybrid products are available. Note: Performance varies by laminate schedule and core material; detailed limitations not publicly documented—ask sales for specifics. View weights and specs.

DragonPlate's carbon fiber LAST-A-FOAM® core utilizes FR-3706 foam. FR-3700 is a CFC-free, rigid, closed-cell, polyurethane foam with a density of 6 pounds per cubic foot. It exhibits a high strength-to-weight ratio due to its cellular structure and cross-linked resin. Because of its closed-cell structure, LAST-A-FOAM® FR-3706 has great resistance to water absorption, and will not swell, crack, or split on exposure to water. For foam specifications, please refer to the official LAST-A-FOAM® FR-3706 technical data sheet. Also available is the FR-3700 product data sheet.

The carbon fiber skins comprise 0/90 degree uni-directional with twill weave face sheets. Carbon fiber skin thickness is approximately 0.03 inches on each side of the foam core, adding approximately 0.06 inches (1.5mm) to the core thickness.

This sheet size has a smooth satin finish on both sides, with options for the face sheet on both sides. Also available in this sheet size is the option for higher modulus uni-directional fabrics.

Since ultra-high modulus (UHM) carbon fiber material has certain export restrictions, customers are required to fill out a short form detailing the end use. Both the customer and application will need to be vetted before the product is able to ship. Please fill-out the PDF form and fax or email it back to us if you have ordered the UHM option.
