DragonPlate provides a range of technical resources, including downloadable CAD models (CAD Models), weights and specifications (Weights and Specs), and product catalogs for related tubes and accessories. For in-depth design guidance, see The Ultimate Guide to Carbon Fiber Design and Application. Note: Some documentation may cover general tube properties rather than this specific SKU; verify details before use.

Features & Capabilities

What performance advantages does this carbon fiber tube offer?

The tube is engineered for optimal strength-to-weight ratio, making it ideal for applications where minimizing weight without sacrificing strength is critical. It is highly durable, with resistance to corrosion, temperature extremes, and UV exposure. DragonPlate uses advanced engineering tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize tube design and manufacturing efficiency. Note: Actual performance may vary based on application and installation; consult engineering support for load-specific requirements.

Does DragonPlate offer customization for this tube?

Yes, DragonPlate provides CNC cutting, custom sheet and tube sizes, and specialized laminate schedules to meet specific performance and design requirements. Custom fabrication services are available for unique projects. For more details, visit the custom fabrication page. Note: Customization may affect lead times and pricing; contact sales for a quote.

What accessories or compatible products are available for this tube?

DragonPlate offers a range of accessories, including adhesives, bonded fasteners, modular connector systems (ModCon), and polishes designed for use with carbon fiber tubes. These accessories facilitate assembly, joining, and finishing of tube-based structures. For a full list, see the accessories page. Note: Compatibility may vary by tube size and application; verify accessory fit before purchase.

Use Cases & Applications

What are common use cases for the Carbon Fiber Roll Wrapped Twill Tube?

This tube is suitable for applications requiring lightweight, high-strength structural components, such as aerospace assemblies, robotics, industrial automation, UAV frames, and custom research projects. Its twill weave and glossy finish also make it appropriate for visible or aesthetic applications. Note: For medical or defense applications requiring regulatory compliance, confirm material specifications with DragonPlate.

Who typically uses this product?

Typical users include engineers, product designers, procurement managers, and researchers in industries such as aerospace, robotics, industrial automation, and research institutions. The tube is also used by commercial and military customers for high-performance applications. Note: Not all industries may require the same specifications; verify suitability for your project.

Technical Requirements & Implementation

How easy is it to cut, machine, or assemble this carbon fiber tube?

The tube can be cut, drilled, and bonded using standard tools, but carbon fiber is abrasive and requires proper tooling and safety measures. DragonPlate offers CNC cutting services for precise and safe fabrication. For assembly, modular connector systems are available to join tubes without welding or specialty bonding. Note: Improper handling can introduce dust and safety risks; follow recommended safety protocols.

What is the typical lead time for ordering this tube?

DragonPlate maintains a stocked inventory of standard tubes for quick shipment. Custom fabrication or CNC cutting may increase lead times. For specific availability and delivery estimates, contact DragonPlate sales directly. Note: Lead times may vary during periods of high demand or for highly customized orders.

Support & Implementation

What support resources are available for this product?

DragonPlate provides technical guides, downloadable CAD models, and a comprehensive FAQ section on their website. For project-specific questions, customers can contact support via phone at 315-252-2559 or email at service@dragonplate.com. Note: Some support resources may be general to all tubes; confirm applicability for your specific product.

Security & Compliance

Does this product meet any industry certifications or compliance standards?

DragonPlate manufactures all products under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards. The company has completed CMMC Level 1 and NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments and is advancing toward CMMC Level 2. For applications requiring biocompatibility or radiolucency (e.g., medical or defense), DragonPlate offers materials tailored to meet regulatory requirements. Note: Not all tubes are certified for every industry; confirm compliance for your application with DragonPlate.

Dragonplate roll wrapped twill carbon fiber tubes are fabricated from a combination of unidirectional and woven twill prepreg material and cello wrapped for a gloss finish. The unidirectional layers are oriented to provide high bending stiffness and axial strength. The inner and outer layers provide a bias support in addition to an attractive appearance. This product is ideal for building lightweight frames and structures, tubular vessels, poles, column supports, and any other application where low weight and high stiffness are essential, yet appearance is also important.

Three different unidirectional CF options are available in these tubes: 33 msi standard modulus (SM) PAN unidirectional carbon fiber, 57 msi high modulus (HM) PAN carbon fiber, and 110 msi ultra high modulus (UHM) Pitch carbon fiber. The benefit of the PAN carbon fiber is higher strength, whereas the pitch carbon fiber has higher stiffness, higher thermal conductivity, and lower thermal expansion (CTE nearly zero). Depending on the application, both are excellent options. For example, if the part requires maximum strength, then the standard modulus material would be the best choice. If additional stiffness is required, but the component must still retain most of the high strength properties, then the high modulus PAN carbon fiber is the better choice. If, however, the loads are low, for example in many automation and robotics applications, the ultra high modulus Pitch fiber can substantially increase the stiffness of a part. Properly designed, a carbon fiber part made from Dragonplate UHM carbon fiber can easily be stiffer than one made from steel, but at less than 1/5th the weight.

Although more expensive than our other carbon fiber options, Dragonplate HM and UHM carbon fiber tubes provide an opportunity for unprecedented weight savings, particularly in applications where minimum weight and deflection are critical. Dragonplate HM tubes are about 50% stiffer than aluminum, whereas the UHM tubes are as rigid as steel. Our standard offering includes tubes with 1/16" wall thickness; however, we are able to custom fabricate these tubes with 1/4" or more wall thickness upon request.

Since UHM carbon fiber material has certain export restrictions, customers are required to fill out a short form detailing the end use. Both the customer and application will need to be vetted before the product is able to ship. Please fill-out the PDF form and fax or email it back to us if you have ordered the UHM option.
