Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information: 1” Modular 3-Way Cube & Modular Connector Systems

What is the 1” Modular 3-Way Cube and what is it used for?

The 1” Modular 3-Way Cube is a component in DragonPlate's modular carbon fiber tube connector system. It is designed to join three 1-inch carbon fiber tubes at right angles, enabling the construction of rigid, lightweight frameworks for applications such as robotics, automation, and custom structures. Note: For highly specialized or non-standard tube sizes, custom solutions may be required.

What other modular connector components are available from DragonPlate?

DragonPlate offers a range of modular connector components, including 4-way cubes, clevis mounts, tube splices, and modular connector systems for both square and round carbon fiber tubes. These components allow for flexible assembly of custom structures without welding or specialty bonding. Note: Compatibility is limited to DragonPlate's specified tube sizes; verify fit before purchase.

Features & Capabilities

What are the key features of DragonPlate's modular connector systems?

Key features include lightweight carbon fiber construction, high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion and temperature resistance, and modularity for easy assembly and reconfiguration. The ModCon modular connector system enables joining tubes into rigid structures without welding or specialty bonding. Note: Not all connectors are compatible with every tube type; check product specifications for details.

How does DragonPlate ensure the durability and performance of its modular connectors?

DragonPlate's connectors are made from high-quality carbon fiber materials engineered for strength, durability, and resistance to corrosion, temperature extremes, and UV exposure. All products are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards at their facility in Elbridge, New York. Note: Detailed limitations not publicly documented; ask sales for specifics regarding extreme or unusual environments.

Use Cases & Benefits

Who can benefit from using DragonPlate's modular connector systems?

Industry professionals such as robotics engineers, aerospace designers, automation specialists, and researchers can benefit from DragonPlate's modular connector systems for building lightweight, rigid frameworks. Hobbyists and startups working on drones, quadcopters, or custom automation projects also use these connectors for rapid prototyping and assembly. Note: For applications requiring non-standard geometries, custom fabrication may be necessary.

What problems do DragonPlate's modular connectors solve?

They address challenges such as joining carbon fiber tubes without welding or specialty bonding, reducing assembly complexity, and enabling rapid prototyping. The modular system also helps reduce manufacturing costs and lead times for custom parts. Note: For extremely high-load or specialized applications, additional engineering validation may be required.

The 1-inch Modular 3-Way Cube with 3 countersunk holes is designed for applications where tubes need to be fixed without rotation. It features three countersunk clearance holes that allow countersunk 1/4-20 flat-head screws to pass through the cube and secure into threaded inserts in the mating tubes.

Each fastener is inserted through an access hole on the opposite face of the cube and rests against an internal surface inside the cube. After assembly, the access holes can be covered with the included plastic snap covers for a clean, professional appearance.

In the image below, the cube is shown in a typical 90° corner configuration. Tubes are fixed in place using internal fasteners accessed from the rear, with clean visible surfaces on all exposed sides.

1" Cube Connector Square Frame

The cross-sectional rendering illustrates how the fastener enters from one face and sits flush against an internal stop. The opposing access hole is aligned for driver tool entry and capped with a removable snap plug after assembly.

Explore our other Cube Connectors to create a variety of easy-to-assemble cube and prismatic shapes. This frame creation system ensures that each tube member is connected at one end by a Modular End Stud Connector (short stud) and at the other end by a countersunk, flat-head screw threaded into a Modular End Thread Connector. Using a countersunk flat-head screw ensures that cubes on either end of a tube member can be aligned parallel to each other. Simply loosen the screw to allow for rotational adjustment, then tighten it again to lock the cube in place.

Example Frame

Constructed from 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, the cube balances strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance. Whether you're building a modular test fixture, aerospace frame, or robotic enclosure, this cube simplifies assembly while providing robust structural performance.
