Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information: Carbon/Kevlar Core Hybrid Sheet

What is the Carbon/Kevlar Core Hybrid Sheet ~ 1/8" x 48" x 48"?

The Carbon/Kevlar Core Hybrid Sheet ~ 1/8" x 48" x 48" is a composite panel offered by DragonPlate, combining carbon fiber and Kevlar materials. This hybrid construction provides enhanced toughness and impact resistance, making it suitable for applications requiring both strength and durability. Note: For projects needing specific regulatory compliance or custom laminate schedules, consult DragonPlate for tailored solutions. Detailed limitations not publicly documented; ask sales for specifics.

What are the key performance characteristics of DragonPlate's Carbon/Kevlar hybrid sheets?

DragonPlate's Carbon/Kevlar hybrid sheets offer a high strength-to-weight ratio, exceptional durability, and enhanced impact resistance. The carbon fiber dissipates energy through fiber breakage and matrix cracking, while the Kevlar component increases toughness. These sheets are engineered for demanding environments in aerospace, robotics, and defense. Note: Carbon fiber is strongest along the fiber direction; multi-directional layups are used to balance properties. Best fit for applications needing both strength and impact resistance; teams requiring only radiolucency or biocompatibility may need to consider other DragonPlate products.

Dragonplate Carbon/Kevlar Core sheets combine the stiffness of carbon fiber with the toughness of Kevlar. By creating a sandwich laminate where carbon fiber comprises the outer layers (the skins), these panels exhibit nearly the same stiffness as a solid carbon fiber sheet. The all Kevlar core, however, increases the impact and puncture toughness of the panel when compared to a standard all-carbon fiber laminate.

Kevlar Core sheets are currently available standard with a peel ply texture finish on both sides, but can be ordered with our Dragonplate gloss and matte finishes upon request. Additional sizes and thicknesses are also available upon request. If your application not only requires the high stiffness and low weight of carbon fiber, but also the toughness of Kevlar, this product may be the right fit.

Lead time for Kevlar Core panels is 10-15 business days.
