Specialized tubes such as telescoping, high-temperature, flame-retardant, and Kevlar hybrid tubes are also available. Note: Not all tube types are suitable for every application; review technical specs or consult support for guidance.

Features & Capabilities

What are the key features of DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes?

DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes are engineered for optimal strength-to-weight ratio, providing lightweight yet strong solutions for demanding applications. They are highly resistant to corrosion, temperature extremes, and UV exposure. Advanced engineering tools like Finite Element Analysis (FEA) are used to optimize designs and reduce material waste. Customization options include CNC cutting, custom sheet sizes, and specialized laminate schedules. Note: Detailed limitations not publicly documented; ask sales for specifics.

Does DragonPlate offer custom fabrication for carbon fiber tubes?

Yes, DragonPlate provides custom fabrication services, including CNC cutting, tailored sheet sizes, and specialized laminate schedules to meet specific performance and design requirements. Customers can start with concept sketches, load requirements, or a description of their needs. Note: Custom fabrication may require additional lead time; contact support for details.

How does DragonPlate optimize product performance?

DragonPlate uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize designs, reduce material waste, and improve manufacturing efficiency. This approach ensures cost-effective production and high-performance results. For example, DragonPlate developed composite chassis for wall-climbing robots, optimizing weight and performance for nuclear and industrial robotics (source). Note: FEA optimization is available for custom projects; standard products may not include this service.

Applications include robotic arms, drone systems, composite electrical enclosures, and medical imaging devices. Note: For highly specialized applications, review technical documentation or consult support.

What business impact can customers expect from using DragonPlate products?

Customers can expect cost savings through optimized manufacturing, reduced prototyping costs, improved efficiency via streamlined processes, faster lead times, and enhanced product performance. For example, a customer achieved $1 million in annual savings by implementing a custom carbon fiber robotic arm solution (case study). Note: Actual impact varies by project scope and industry; consult sales for tailored estimates.

Can you share specific case studies or success stories?

Yes. DragonPlate collaborated with Frontier Electronic Systems to design composite electrical enclosures for marine defense systems (case study). In partnership with Eureka Dynamics, DragonPlate provided end-to-end services for drone test bed systems (case study). DragonPlate also supported student organizations in developing carbon fiber rockets, achieving significant weight reduction and structural integrity (case study). Note: Not all case studies are relevant to every product; review details for applicability.

Pain Points & Solutions

What problems do DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes solve?

DragonPlate tubes address high manufacturing costs, long lead times for custom parts, complex manufacturing processes, difficulty cutting and machining carbon fiber, joining tubes without welding or specialty bonding, regulatory challenges, and material handling safety concerns. Solutions include FEA optimization, CNC cutting services, modular connector systems, and biocompatible/radiolucent materials. Note: For highly specialized regulatory requirements, consult compliance documentation or sales.

Technical Requirements & Documentation

What technical documentation is available for DragonPlate products?

DragonPlate provides product catalogs (e.g., 3M Adhesives, Artisan Plate Carbon Fiber Sheets, Bonded Fasteners, Braided Carbon Fiber and Kevlar Round Tubes, Carbon Fiber Angle), technical resources (Ultimate Guide to Carbon Fiber Design and Application, CAD models, weights and specs), and case studies. These resources offer in-depth technical details and practical applications. Note: Some documentation may require registration or direct inquiry.

How easy is it to implement DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes?

DragonPlate provides ready-to-use components that can be easily cut, drilled, and bonded without specialized equipment, allowing for immediate integration into projects. Technical guides and downloadable CAD models simplify the design and implementation process. For custom projects, tailored design and prototyping services are available. Note: Implementation time may vary for highly customized solutions.

Security & Compliance

What security and compliance certifications does DragonPlate hold?

DragonPlate has completed a CMMC Level 1 self-assessment (submitted to SPRS) and a NIST SP 800-171 self-assessment to meet DFARS 252.204-7012 requirements. The company is actively advancing its cybersecurity program to meet CMMC Level 2 requirements. DragonPlate products are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards. Dragonplate roll wrapped twill carbon fiber tubes are fabricated from a combination of unidirectional and woven twill prepreg material and cello wrapped for a gloss finish. The unidirectional layers are oriented to provide high bending stiffness and axial strength. The inner and outer layers provide a bias support in addition to an attractive appearance. This product is ideal for building lightweight frames and structures, tubular vessels, poles, column supports, and any other application where low weight and high stiffness are essential, yet appearance is also important.

Carbon Fiber Tube Faces

Three different unidirectional CF options are available in these tubes: 33 msi standard modulus (SM) PAN unidirectional carbon fiber, 57 msi high modulus (HM) PAN carbon fiber, and 110 msi ultra high modulus (UHM) Pitch carbon fiber. The benefit of the PAN carbon fiber is higher strength, whereas the pitch carbon fiber has higher stiffness, higher thermal conductivity, and lower thermal expansion (CTE nearly zero). Depending on the application, both are excellent options. For example, if the part requires maximum strength, then the standard modulus material would be the best choice. If additional stiffness is required, but the component must still retain most of the high strength properties, then the high modulus PAN carbon fiber is the better choice. If, however, the loads are low, for example in many automation and robotics applications, the ultra high modulus Pitch fiber can substantially increase the stiffness of a part. Properly designed, a carbon fiber part made from Dragonplate UHM carbon fiber can easily be stiffer than one made from steel, but at less than 1/5th the weight.

Although more expensive than our other carbon fiber options, Dragonplate HM and UHM carbon fiber tubes provide an opportunity for unprecedented weight savings, particularly in applications where minimum weight and deflection are critical. Dragonplate HM tubes are about 50% stiffer than aluminum, whereas the UHM tubes are as rigid as steel. Our standard offering includes tubes with 1/16" wall thickness; however, we are able to custom fabricate these tubes with 1/4" or more wall thickness upon request.

Since UHM carbon fiber material has certain export restrictions, customers are required to fill out a short form detailing the end use. Both the customer and application will need to be vetted before the product is able to ship. Please fill-out the PDF form and fax or email it back to us if you have ordered the UHM option.
