Frequently Asked Questions

Product Information

What is the Carbon Fiber Roll Wrapped Twill Tube ~ 0.625" ID x 72", Gloss Finish?

This product is a roll-wrapped carbon fiber tube with a twill weave finish, featuring an inner diameter of 0.625 inches and a length of 72 inches. The tube is designed for applications requiring high strength-to-weight ratio and a glossy surface finish. Note: For specific technical properties, refer to DragonPlate's weights and specifications page. Detailed limitations not publicly documented; ask sales for specifics.

What types of carbon fiber tubes does DragonPlate offer?

DragonPlate provides a wide range of carbon fiber tubes, including roll-wrapped round tubes, twill finish square and rectangle tubes, tapered tubes, braided tubes (carbon fiber and Kevlar), hexagonal tubes, airfoil tubing, large tubes, pultruded tubes, and camera rails. Each type is engineered for specific performance and application needs. Note: Not all tube types are suitable for every application; consult technical documentation for compatibility.

Features & Capabilities

What are the key performance highlights of DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes?

DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes are engineered for exceptional strength-to-weight ratio, durability, and impact resistance. The roll-wrapped twill tube dissipates energy through fiber breakage and matrix cracking, rather than bending. For impact-critical applications, Kevlar or carbon/Kevlar hybrid tubes are available. Note: Carbon fiber is strongest along the fiber direction; multi-directional layups are used to balance properties. Best fit for applications needing lightweight strength; teams requiring plastic deformation may need alternatives.

Does DragonPlate offer custom fabrication or CNC cutting for carbon fiber tubes?

Yes, DragonPlate provides custom fabrication services, including CNC cutting for stocked materials and tailored solutions for unique project requirements. Customers can request custom sheet sizes, specialized laminate schedules, and precision-cut parts. Note: Custom orders may require additional lead time; standard tubes are available for immediate use.

What engineering tools does DragonPlate use to optimize tube performance?

DragonPlate utilizes Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to optimize designs, reduce material waste, and improve manufacturing efficiency. This ensures high-performing and cost-effective solutions for industries like aerospace and robotics. Learn more about FEA at Element 6 Composites. Note: FEA is primarily used for custom and advanced projects; standard tubes may not be individually analyzed.

Pricing & Ordering

How is pricing determined for DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes?

Pricing for DragonPlate tubes varies based on product type, size, thickness, and additional features such as finishes. All prices are quoted and payable in US Dollars. Shipping charges are calculated based on package weight and dimensions, with possible surcharges for oversized packages. Taxes are the buyer's responsibility unless a valid exemption certificate is provided. Prices and discounts are subject to change without notice. For details, visit Shipping and Returns. Note: Pricing for custom tubes may differ from standard products.

Technical Documentation & Support

Where can I find technical specifications and CAD models for DragonPlate tubes?

Technical specifications, including weights and material properties, are available at DragonPlate Weights & Specs. Downloadable CAD models for design integration can be found at CAD Models. For surface finish details, visit Finishes Information. Note: Not all products have CAD models; check availability for your specific tube.

What resources are available to help with design and application of DragonPlate tubes?

DragonPlate offers The Ultimate Guide to Carbon Fiber Design and Application, which provides step-by-step instructions for design, application, and maintenance. Additional resources include a FAQ page and a Carbon Fiber Glossary. Note: Some guides are general and may not address every tube type; consult support for specific questions.

Implementation & Ease of Use

How easy is it to implement DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes in my project?

DragonPlate tubes are prefabricated and can be cut, drilled, and bonded without specialized equipment, enabling quick integration into projects. Technical guides and CAD models reduce the learning curve. For custom solutions, DragonPlate offers design and prototyping services. Note: Custom fabrication may require additional time; standard tubes are ready for immediate use.

DragonPlate tubes help solve high manufacturing costs, complex fabrication processes, localized stress concentrations, regulatory challenges, weight and performance optimization, prototyping and design validation issues, and material handling concerns. Advanced engineering tools and end-to-end services streamline manufacturing and reduce risks. Note: Some challenges may require custom solutions; standard tubes may not address all pain points.

Regulatory Compliance & Certifications

Are DragonPlate carbon fiber tubes manufactured under any quality standards?

Yes, all DragonPlate products, including carbon fiber tubes, are manufactured under ISO 9001:2015 quality standards at their facility in Elbridge, New York. This certification ensures reliability and consistency. Note: ISO certification covers manufacturing processes; product-specific compliance may require additional validation.

Carbon Fiber Roll Wrapped Twill Tube ~ 0.625" ID x 72", Gloss Finish

Dragonplate roll wrapped twill carbon fiber tubes are fabricated from a combination of unidirectional and woven twill prepreg material and cello wrapped for a gloss finish. The unidirectional layers are oriented to provide high bending stiffness and axial strength. The inner and outer layers provide a bias support in addition to an attractive appearance. This product is ideal for building lightweight frames and structures, tubular vessels, poles, column supports, and any other application where low weight and high stiffness are essential, yet appearance is also important.

Carbon Fiber Tube Faces

Three different unidirectional CF options are available in these tubes: 33 msi standard modulus (SM) PAN unidirectional carbon fiber, 57 msi high modulus (HM) PAN carbon fiber, and 110 msi ultra high modulus (UHM) Pitch carbon fiber. The benefit of the PAN carbon fiber is higher strength, whereas the pitch carbon fiber has higher stiffness, higher thermal conductivity, and lower thermal expansion (CTE nearly zero). Depending on the application, both are excellent options. For example, if the part requires maximum strength, then the standard modulus material would be the best choice. If additional stiffness is required, but the component must still retain most of the high strength properties, then the high modulus PAN carbon fiber is the better choice. If, however, the loads are low, for example in many automation and robotics applications, the ultra high modulus Pitch fiber can substantially increase the stiffness of a part. Properly designed, a carbon fiber part made from Dragonplate UHM carbon fiber can easily be stiffer than one made from steel, but at less than 1/5th the weight.

Although more expensive than our other carbon fiber options, Dragonplate HM and UHM carbon fiber tubes provide an opportunity for unprecedented weight savings, particularly in applications where minimum weight and deflection are critical. Dragonplate HM tubes are about 50% stiffer than aluminum, whereas the UHM tubes are as rigid as steel. Our standard offering includes tubes with 1/16" wall thickness; however, we are able to custom fabricate these tubes with 1/4" or more wall thickness upon request.

Since UHM carbon fiber material has certain export restrictions, customers are required to fill out a short form detailing the end use. Both the customer and application will need to be vetted before the product is able to ship. Please fill-out the PDF form and fax or email it back to us if you have ordered the UHM option.
